Launching READ 365: Inspiring a Love of Independent Reading

USD 365 is excited to launch READ 365, a new districtwide initiative designed to spark and sustain students’ love of reading. Research consistently shows that independent reading plays a key role in student success, and our district is committed to building a culture where reading is celebrated every day.
Our first READ 365 project kicked off over the summer by providing students with summer reading books to enjoy during the break. To celebrate their efforts, students who returned their completed books were invited to a special pizza party. We’re thrilled to share that 41 students in the district earned their way to some well-deserved pizza and reading fun!
During our first READ 365 meeting, teams brainstormed creative projects to encourage students to read for enjoyment and to share their reading experiences with others.
Here are just a few ways we’re getting started:
- Chat and Chew sessions with school librarians to connect over great books.
- Buddy Rooms that bring students of all ages together to build reading communities.
- Cross-school sharing opportunities so elementary students can talk about what they’re reading with peers across USD 365.
At USD 365, we believe reading is powerful—and we’re dedicated to helping every student discover that power by creating strong, connected reading communities.
