Regarding the Public Hearing on the Proposed Closure of Greeley Elementary School

Our Board of Education has voted to move forward with a public hearing to consider the proposed closure of Greeley Elementary School at the end of the current school year, in accordance with K.S.A. 72-1431. The hearing will be held on January 8, 2026, at 7:15 p.m. at the USD 365 Board Offices in Ray Meyer Gym.
This proposal reflects several long-term challenges facing the district, many financial in nature, including consistently declining enrollment, rising operational and maintenance costs, and the need to consolidate resources to strengthen educational services for all USD 365 students. Under the proposal, students currently attending Greeley Elementary would be reassigned to Garnett Elementary School. Families will be given the opportunity to choose to attend Westphalia as well.
While this process includes difficult conversations, we want to emphasize that no decision is being made at this stage. The purpose of the hearing is to listen. A representative of the Board will present the proposal, and the Board will receive public testimony regarding its advisability.
As a district, we are committed to approaching this discussion with transparency, respect, and care for the students, families, staff, and community members who are deeply connected to Greeley Elementary. We understand the history, pride, and personal meaning this school holds, and we recognize the weight a proposal like this carries.
We encourage all stakeholders to participate in the hearing, share their perspectives, and engage in this process. Our goal is to make decisions that support long-term stability, student opportunity, and the longevity of USD 365.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our schools and our students.
